Helplink exists to serve those in Wirral who are elderly,
sick or disabled and thus often housebound, by providing the services
that they need but so often are unable to obtain themselves. Helplink
clients live mostly in Barnston, Gayton, Heswall, Irby, Pensby, Thingwall,
and Thurstaston, but our services are not limited just to these areas,
prospective clients in various areas of Wirral are now seeking our
support but most of these are direct referrals from Social
Service Departments. Most of our clients are Senior Citizens, but anyone
over 18 can seek support from us. We do have several younger clients
who, for various reasons, cannot manage for themselves.
Helplink originated
many years ago as a Good Neighbour Scheme, started by Heswall & District
CVS. In 1994 Wirral Borough Council Social Services agreed to provide
funding and the services offered were expanded.
Helplink grew year by year and by April 2000 was registered as an
independent charity.

Our
Mission
|
| |
Helplink
is a Community Support Organization operating according to Wirral
Community Care Charter Standards and
offers
practical help by providing assistance which will help maintain
or improve the ever important quality of life for it's clients |
 |
ensures
that the organization continues to meet the increasing demand
for community support in the Wirral area |
 |
 |
provides
the relevant information which may help with the aspects of
support which Helplink cannot offer |
At present we have around 650 clients for whom we provide support
for, day in, day out, throughout the year. This as you can imagine
takes
a huge amount
of organizing and we are heavily dependent on our volunteers to help us maintain
the quality of the service that we offer our clients.
Our Helplink volunteers provide friendly company and help with a
whole range of activities, which our clients often find difficulty
completing on their own. Below is a list of some of the typical services
that we provide our clients with:

But
What Do We At Helplink Actually Do? |
| |
Helplink
provides its range of services, on a regular basis, to over 650
clients in the West Wirral area and beyond. Our volunteers give
their time willingly with befriending visits, respite visits, provision
of transport to day-care facilities, luncheon clubs, hospital/GP
appointments and general transport, moving service, shopping, collection
of prescriptions, DIY, decorating, hospital & nursing home
visits.
For many clients
it has become more difficult to get out or be taken 'out & about'
and so befriending visits giving some regular company become more
precious than ever. For this reason and and because the basic business
of shopping can become a problem when housebound, Helplink urgently
needs to increase the number of volunteers it has available to
meet all the requests received.
Please get in
touch with us by telephone or by popping into our office so we
can explain exactly what is involved - without obligation or prior
commitment on your part.
We offer practical
help and friendship by providing assistance which will maintain
or improve the ever important 'quality of life' and relieve social
isolation. We are always striving to ensure that our organisation
continues to meet the increasing demand for community support which
we are constantly made aware of. We also understand the need to
educate others and with this in mind we provide information and
advice which may help with any of the aspects of support which
we at Helplink unfortunately cannot offer.
The number of
requests for help continues to increase each year and so does our
need for more community concsius volunteers, the vital link in
contributing some help to the many clients in the community. |
